Keeping Easter Day at Home by Fr. David Lawrence - March
EASTER DAY Sunday 12th April 2020
Alleluia! Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
The Lord is truly risen, alleluia.
To him be glory and power
for all the ages of eternity, alleluia, alleluia.
As we give thanks for the love of God the Father seen this day in the Resurrection of God the Son in the power of God the Holy Spirit, let us keep a few minutes’ quiet and reflect on the magnitude of this great event.
You may like to light a candle as a reminder of the great Easter Candle usually the focal point in churches during the fifty days of Eastertide, and pray the Easter Proclamation.
Sing choirs of heaven! Let saints and angels sing!
Around God’s throne exult in harmony.
Now Jesus Christ is risen from the grave.
Salute your King in glorious symphony.
Sing choirs of earth! Behold, your light has come.
The glory of the Lord shines radiantly.
Lift up your hearts, for Christ has conquered death.
The night is past; the day of life is here.
Sing Church of God! Exult with joy outpoured.
The gospel trumpets tell of victory won.
Your Saviour lives: he’s with you evermore.
Let all God’s people shout the long Amen.
Please use the Collect and readings for Easter Day, printed on the weekly Mass sheet on the reverse of the Benefice Bulletin (and also available on the website www.shepherdandsaviour.org) There is also a commentary on each reading which you may find helpful as you meditate on the readings.
The Sequence, Christians, to the Paschal Victim , may also be useful, especially as a preparation for reading the Gospel of the Day.
On Easter Day, instead of saying the Creed, we would usually renew our Baptismal Vows. This is the form that we would have used in church at Mass on Easter Day. Please pray it as part of our celebration together, although apart.
THE RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL VOWS
Do you renounce sin, so as to live in the freedom of the children of God? I do.
Do you renounce the lure of evil, so that sin may have no mastery over you? I do.
Do you renounce Satan, the author and prince of sin? I do.
Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? I do.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father? I do.
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? I do.
And may almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us new birth by water and the Holy Spirit and bestowed on us forgiveness of our sins, keep us by his grace,
in Christ Jesus our Lord, for eternal life. Amen.
A BLESSING FOR EASTER DAY
May almighty God bless us through today’s Solemnity of Easter and, in his compassion,
defend us from every assault of sin. Amen.
And may he, who restores us to eternal life in the Resurrection of his Only Begotten endow us with the prize of immortality. Amen.
Now that the days of the Lord’s Passion have drawn to a close, may we who celebrate the gladness of the Paschal Feast come with Christ’s help, and exulting in spirit, to those feasts that are celebrated in eternal joy. Amen.
And may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father, and the Son, +and the Holy Spirit,
come down on us and remain with us for ever.
the Easter Hymn to Our Lady, sung at the end of Mass in Eastertide
Joy to thee, O Queen of Heaven, alleluia!
He who thou wast meet to bear, alleluia!
As he promised is arisen, alleluia!
Pour for us to God thy prayer, alleluia!
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
For the Lord is risen indeed, alleluia!
Lord Jesus Christ,
your Resurrection has brought joy to the world.
Grant that with your mother, the sinless Virgin Mary,
we may come to share your glory,
as you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, now and for ever.
